Types of cast iron
Waterloo Foundry is a proud manufacturer of custom castings in various alloys, tailored to our customer’s needs. A semi-automatic production line handles both small and medium quantities with certified cast-iron composition.
High-chromium cast-iron
High-chromium cast-iron refers to ASTM A532 grades, which include white cast-irons alloyed for high-abrasion resistance. These are used in mining, for snowplow shoes, asphalt surfaces, etc. The grades are recommended where there is premature wear and a need for improved abrasion resistance. Low-alloyed white iron is not included in this category.

Grey iron
Grey iron is a lamellar graphite iron, generally used when traction force and strength are paramount. The grades are classified by minimum traction force. Grey iron is high-strength with excellent thermal shock resistance, compressive strength and slight abrasion resistance. It’s also used where cast-iron is required, but without the need for strong mechanical properties.
